Richard M. Nolen was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia.  In 1981, Richard graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1984 obtained his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.  In 1997, he was awarded a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Richard is admitted to practice in both Alabama and Georgia.  Richard’s law practice has been devoted exclusively to the area of family law since 1986.  He was a partner with Prince, Turner & Nolen in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Warner, Mayoue, Bates and Nolen in Atlanta, Georgia, prior to becoming a founding partner of Boyd Collar Nolen & Tuggle in 2009.

Throughout his legal career, Richard has served in numerous leadership positions in the family law bar.  He was Chair of the Family Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association from 2000-2001, Chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia from 2004-2005, and President of the Charles Longstreet Weltner Family Law Inn of Court from 2008-2010.  He also served as President of the Tuscaloosa, Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, Editor of The Family Lawyer and The Family Law Review, and is on the Board of Trustees of the Farrah Law Society.  He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a Life Fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia.

Richard has been selected by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America in the area of family law, and has been listed by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of the state’s “Legal Elite,” and honored by Atlanta Magazine as a member of “Super Lawyers.”

He frequently lectures on emerging issues in family law.

Richard and his wife, Alice, an attorney and C.P.A., live in Atlanta, and have two young children, Richard, Jr., and Elizabeth.
